The "Herbarium project" offers an unexpected research approach to communities involved in the exchange of ideas and perceptual strategies in contemporary art. At its center is a collection that captures the creative energy of different generations of artists around the world in 40x40x10cm or 20x40x10cm boxes. The contents of each box are accompanied by a description and a sound file, as well as additional information related to the biographies of the participants published on the website https://herbariumcollection.com. Invited by the curator Irina Batkova, the artists select two new participants each - thus creative contacts in the art world are tracked with the new additions to the collection.
The exhibition at the "Centre for Contemporary Art and Library" in Burgas has a special focus on artists from France and Italy, who are from different national and cultural backgrounds, but work in these countries and as part of artistic circles, realize joint projects and exhibitions. Taking place within one of the archive's exhibition models, "In/Out of the Box", the selection includes artists from Bulgaria, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. At the exhibition's finale, after the screening of their portraits from the "H Talks" series, the artists from the Italian part of "Herbarium" - Moira Ricci, Massimo Pulini and Kiril Cholakov will be presented. They come to Bulgaria with the kind support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia.
The video portraits "H Talks", directed by Milena Kaneva, are part of the Herbarium archive and document conversations between the curator Irina Batkova and the artists, focused on their artistic practice in their working environment. All elements of the "Herbarium project" form a unique database for researchers, curators, gallerists, students and art connoisseurs interested in non-standard methods in the analysis of contemporary art.
The project is implemented with the financial support of Burgas Municipality, in partnership with the State Cultural Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia.
