American philosopher Mary Anne Warren defines the term "conceptual framework" as a set of core beliefs, values, attitudes, and assumptions that shape and reflect the way a person sees themselves and their world. She describes the characteristics of oppressive conceptual frameworks , which are the core focus of the ecofeminist philosophy that emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s. One of these frames is predetermined by canonical Western philosophy, where dualisms of masculine versus feminine and culture versus nature have historically ascribed greater value to what is identified with men or culture than to what is identified with women or nature. According to these value dualisms, it is better to be male or culturally identified than female or nature. Eco-feminism explores the ways in which these shared conceptual roots function in real life to sustain institutions and practices of oppression and domination. An important role in ecofeminist philosophy is played by an understanding of the ecofeminist ethic, which involves the expression of specific values generated by women's sensitivity to the world, such as empathy, care, consideration for others and the environment, that are often lost or undervalued in mainstream Western ethics.
The "Nature of Connections" project creates a visual environment that examines the emergence of an ethical discourse that emerges from the diversity of "narratives" or "voices" of women situated in different national, historical and cultural circumstances. Although the ten women artists who participate in the exhibition analyse different themes and follow their own original approaches in their artistic practices, they manage in a very careful and delicate way to sink into the deep layers of self-knowledge of their feminine selves in order to create a territory of a special relation to the understanding of the world, nature and others.
