I am interested in the impossibilities, absurdities, hilarities and struggles of our daily lives. The situations I depict in my paintings portray aspects of human longings, dreams, fantasies and memories.
As a painter, I am the director of my work, and sometimes I act in it myself. I consider the canvas as a stage on which I place the props. The depicted is about painting, about storytelling, about reality and theatre, about perception and imagination. Often the setting is situated both inside and outside. On canvas I create a poetical space which couldn’t exist in reality. It is the world of the artist, with its own logic and rules. I sometimes consider the space outside the canvas as part of the work. By creating spatial objects (props) and adding them into the exhibition I use space as an extension of the painting, so that the meaning of the painting can also arise or change in relation to that physical attribute. More recently, I investigated into what extent a series of small paintings can rebuild the image of a larger canvas in a different way. I call these small paintings Randstücke und Zwischenstücke, because for me they are pieces of a larger whole, just like a puzzle.

The stories I suggest arise in the space of the spectator’s imagination. My paintings are an invitation to discover and to wander around in what you see. Where thoughts relate to feelings and where they connect with the portrayal, is where stories emerge. I invite the audience to investigate their own longings, dreams, and memories.
