The message, the form, the creative provocation, the perfect execution of the idea, a clever curator.
The space is not just a place where the work(s) unfold it becomes part of them. Many of the art installations we create are created specifically for the spaces. In many cases, such as our works for museum facades and other public spaces, the art installation transforms the architecture and/or the environment. This aims to place the viewer in a new unusual situation that opens their senses to see the usual one in a new light. Something like shifting a jigsaw puzzle to pay attention to every detail before it is rearranged.
Since the question is asked to artists the vision should be the leading element. In our case the use of text is part of the vision in addition to the message. The line between writing and the other parts of the work blurs and texts become works themselves. In video installations, videos, or site specific installations the vision and the text develop together. They are directly connected as all elements of the work are considered and discussed throughout the creation of the work. They follow many conversations, arguments, acceptance and rejection of these. Our collaborative works are not impulsive. This does not exclude the emotional impact of the work apart from its mental and aesthetic one.
You can't talk about an "audience" at all. Audiences have different sensibilities, different interests, different perspectives and different knowledge. So you can't expect the same reactions, and they don't have to be the same. The important thing is to have reactions. A work of art is an invitation to reverse reality, an invitation to talk, to think, to go beyond stereotypes.
Contemporary art evolves using new technologies. It reflects and mirrors society with all its transformations, problems and issues. The artist is an active observer of contemporary life, questioning not only the collective "truths" and contradictions of human existence, but even the art system. So contemporary art is a kind of critical insight and cannot be considered outside the context of the development of science, political and social movements in society.
